Project title: from electric enduro motorcycle to modular EV platform: A sustainable future for off-road motorsport and two-wheeled mobility
Duration: 01/2026 – 12/2027
Total budget: €1.365.915,00
The transition to electric mobility is progressing across multiple sectors, but the motorcycle industry continues to face challenges in achieving effective electrification. Current electric motorcycles are often limited in range, weight, charging time, and overall performance, which restricts their applicability, particularly in demanding use cases such as off-road motorsport. At the same time, emissions and noise regulations are increasingly impacting this segment, creating a need for alternative technical solutions.
This project, supported by EFRO-OOST, is executed by a consortium consisting of STERN Technologies, AE-Racing, and the University of Twente. The objective is the development of an electric enduro motorcycle and an associated modular EV platform. The project focuses on three main technological components: a swappable battery system, a modular SiC inverter, and a bi-directional charger. These components are integrated into a single system to improve performance, usability, and efficiency. The developed platform that these components form is intended to be scalable and applicable to a broader range of electric motorcycles, contributing to further development within the electric two-wheeler sector.
This programme is co-funded by the European Union.
